Business Development Coordinator

I.             Summary:

General Responsibilities:

The Business Development Coordinator attends marketing/sales events sales and manages leads as well as key industry relationships that facilitate the growth of BCS’s market share.

Reports to:                         Sales Manager
Direct reports:                  None

  • Minimal Supervision

II.            Major Responsibilities:

45%  Builds portfolio of opportunities and strategic partners to support growth of BCS

  • Maintains fruitful relationships with existing customers
  • Drive new business through general contractors, architects and developers.
  • Uncover Opportunities with new customers within BCS territory (specifically: schools and hospitals).
  • Devising strategies for driving sales growth across the business.
  • Analyzing existing approaches to the development of business and making changes where appropriate.
  • Identifying sales opportunities as a result of market changes.
  • Acting as a key contact for B and C level customer accounts.
  • Forming strategic partnerships with other companies to leverage their existing networks.
  • Working with the marketing team to devise marketing materials and tools to support new business teams.
  • Gathers and analyze customer feedback/insight (surveys, focus groups- present new products, identify areas of improvement)
  • Bring us ideas on new events to host, who to invite/joint sponsorship with, where can we best be in front of customers at trade shows and tournaments?
  • Market Research: Identify customer segments that we are not already targeting. Identify low market shares and why we are losing sales

35%  Attends marketing/sales events and manages event leads

  • Attends industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends. Engages other organizations within the community
  • Attends and manages sets up for all sponsored events
  • Engages with customers, prospects, partners and collects intel
  • Researches competing strategies and reports back to the marketing department 
  • Manages event leads - devise individual business development strategies for departments/sales individual to manage potential opportunities
  • Assist in pre-and-post strategy events strategy meetings
  • Evaluate events and develop a plan to gain the most leverage at each event

10%  Manages Digital and Print Leads

  • Manage leads from: website, social media, email campaign and dodge analytic (pre-design) and print article
  • Develops individual strategies to channel all leads into actual customers
  • Manage Lead Funnel in Act-On
  • Keep customer lists up to date

5%  Manage Purchasing Cooperatives

  • Researches and manage cooperatives BCS should be a part of
  • Oversee cooperative application process
  • Develop and implement a marketing plan to promote each cooperative

5%  Participates in on-going training and development

  • Contributes in sales tool and/or sales skills training development.
  • Assists in mentoring and developing other sales staff in all aspects of professional sales role.
  • Studies literature and attends seminars to keep current in products, processes and materials.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing or related field preferred.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum five years of experience in industry or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of building automation and equipment concepts and operations.
  • Expert in persuading, influencing and communicating the benefit of total life cycle savings to high level account customers.
  • Skilled at customer needs assessment and development of sales proposals.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing others.
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, writing, listening and collaboration skills.
  • Good contract evaluation and negotiation.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid driver license

Other Requirements

  • Requires travel to and from customer sites, primarily within the local area and Kansas.
  • Requires occasional overnight stays.


Training and development:

  • Completes continuing education as needed.  


Physical Requirements

Requires frequent standing, walking, climbing of stairs, bending, squatting or twisting. Requires the ability to carry, lift, move or push up to 20 pounds on a regular basis. Must be able to talk and listen to others. Frequent use of manual dexterity and visualization of a computer screen through the day. Requires ability to see up close and distant, distinguish colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This position regularly works in an office setting and also frequently visits customer sites/job sites in all types of indoor and outdoor conditions including near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, extreme heat, cold and humidity. Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic fumes or chemicals. Regular noise levels range from minimal to moderate, but may be very loud when visiting job sites. Most of the job duties require the employee to be working with computers and electronic media on a regular basis.
