Estimating Manager

Department: Sales

POSITION: Estimating Manager
DEPARTMENT: Sales
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SUMMARY:

General Responsibilities:

The Estimating Manager is responsible for the successful development and management of the estimating team members, while supporting the work between inside and outside sales team. This role will provide support to outside sales staff by developing project scopes and pricing for the various product lines represented by BCS, and assist the operations team with project setup, handoff, and management.

Reports to: Director of Sales
Direct reports: Controls Estimators, Mechanical Estimators, Estimator, Estimator I

Direction:

  • Minimal supervision.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

40% Develop and manage the inside sales team.

  • Develop team members through coaching and mentoring by actively listening, asking questions to assist in strategic growth and succession planning.
  • Lead, manage and coach team members. Provides clear expectations, accountability, and direction. Implements discipline and termination procedures when needed.
  • Ensures direct reports are adhering to company policy and furthering company culture in a positive direction.
  • Develops and ensures that quality standards are maintained for processes and functions.
  • Actively works to strengthen relationships with external customers/partners and vendors and promote BCS.
  • Maintain outstanding internal and external customer satisfaction by investigating concerns, processes, implementation, advising corrective action and communicating to better assist customers and manufactures.
  • Responsible for staying up to date on external market conditions and internal requirements related to the sales staff.
  • Assist in the recruitment, development, retention and promotion for the department.
  • Regularly scheduled 1:1’s with direct reports

25% Provide support to outside sales staff in job takeoff and pricing.

  • Work with the Sales staff on developing control system layouts and sequence of operations for upcoming projects.
  • Reviews plans, specifications, addendums and bid dates for projects.
  • Take-offs/Estimates/Prices for control systems, HVAC equipment, DDC and MSD service, & other miscellaneous items from our product lines.
  • Generates project scope of work document.
  • Coordinates bids between multiple product lines

25% Coordinates job timelines and supports turnover to operations.

  • Updates internal and external databases to keep up-to-date on the status of all sales opportunities.
  • Coordinates project information/handoffs to operations department to insure a proper submittal is created and submitted.
  • Supports sales staff to make sure all necessary information is at project handoff meetings to insure project success.
  • Price change orders as necessary.

10% Provides customer service to existing and potential customers.

  • Assists customers and potential customers with problems involving the use of company products, services and recommend suitable resolutions according to their needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field, preferred.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum five years of experience in engineering systems or related field, preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals and HVAC concepts and operations, preferred.
  • Sales experience, preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Mathematical abilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and create and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to build rapport and strengthen relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Strong problem solving ability.
  • Organized with an attention to detail.
  • Proficient with programming functions.
  • Good contracting skills required.

  • Valid driver’s license

Other Requirements

  • Requires occasional travel to and from job sites, primarily within the local area and Kansas City.
  • Requires occasional overnight stays in the Kansas City area.
